About the Story

When Diamond announced that she would be doing another round of Taking The Leap, I knew without a doubt that I was going to sign up. The problem was, there really isn’t a lot that I haven’t written, aside from some really oddball genres. I considered those, but I didn’t want to start something that would be really long when I already have so many stories in progress.

Last year, I wrote Taylor/Isaac, which was a new pairing for me, so I considered doing another different pairing this year. Zac/Natalie came to mind, because I had been lamenting the death of a story I quite enjoyed that I thought was going to go in that direction. Other than that story, I don’t think this pairing has been done before, which made me want to try it even more.

I originally planned to just write a oneshot, but I found that I needed to say a little more to really explain their relationship. Still, I wanted to keep it short, so I plotted out the five chapters that you see here now. There’s more I could say, but I think these few chapters say plenty.

As for the title, which I know is kind of strange, it comes from a song called Unhappy by Thriving Ivory. iTunes just happened to shuffle to it while I was writing, and I was struck by how well it fit this story. Here are the lyrics, if you’re curious. The song is actually from the guy’s point of view, while the story sticks to Natalie’s, but I think it still fits very well and adds a little something to the story if you’re familiar with it.
