August 2010

Waking the next morning Avery opened her eyes, letting out a tiny groan at the sun that was coming through the window.

She wasn’t hungover she knew that much but the sun seemed much brighter today. Like it wanted to curse Avery or something.

It could have, especially since she had always called Paisley her sun and she had sex carelessly with someone who wasn’t her and yeah okay that was stupid because she had sex with Cordelia numerous times but none of them had been careless.

Regardless of the fact that she didn’t love Cordelia like she should have during their whole relationship.

Sitting up in bed though Avery did her best not to wake Harper as she slipped out. Gathering her clothes and putting them on.

She knew she shouldn’t just leave but then again maybe this time if she left before the person woke then it would be easier to let this be what it was.

A simple one night stand with someone she was sexually attracted to.

It was something Avery had tried with Ethan but he had woken up and persuaded her to stay. But that was Ethan and he was just persuasive enough to get Avery to do whatever he wanted her to do.

She wasn’t sure if Harper could be the same. After all they hadn’t really even spent a full day together.

They had only spent a night together and it had been one hell of a night. One hell of a really good night.

Shaking her head once she had her clothes on Avery slowly sat down in a chair as she slipped her shoes back on as well. All the time eyeing Harper and hoping the other girl didn’t wake up.

It was only when she stood up after her shoes were on and slowly walked to the door, slipping outside did she let out a sigh of relief.

She finally somehow successfully walked away from a one night stand. Hopefully breaking the habit of seeing them again and letting them worm their way into her life like she had done with Paisley and Ethan.

Going to the elevator, Avery hit the button and when the doors opened she walked inside. Hitting the button for the ground floor and she was half tempted to reach into the pocket of her shorts and get her cell phone out. See if Ethan had texted her.

But then she decided better of that. First before doing anything she wanted to go to the nearest Starbucks and get a coffee.

Needed caffeine before facing or talking to anyone.

Maybe if she had coffee it would make her walk of shame into Ethan’s mom’s house a bit easier to handle.

Once she had her cup of coffee in her hand, Avery took a sip before finding an empty table and sitting down. Her eyes closing as she smiled when the warm caffeine goodness hit her system.

It may have only been one sip but it was enough to make Avery feel alive. Though she still wasn’t sure if she was ready to face Ethan and do the walk of shame.

So instead she took another sip of her coffee, reaching for her phone which she turned on. Not in the least bit surprised to see she had a text from Ethan.

What she was surprised about though was the text she had from Paisley. As well as one from Mac.

It had been a few weeks since she heard from her youngest brother. Not that Avery faulted him. It had to be hard to contact her when he still lived at home under the prying eyes of their mother.

Deciding to start with Ethan’s text first she opened it and read his words with bated breath.

I know you left with Harper. Hope you have a good time, give me details in the morning or whenever you get home.

Rolling her eyes she shook her head with a blush before going to her brother’s text and opening it.

So Paisley is getting married?

Reading Mac’s texts several times Avery raised an eyebrow wondering how he knew.

Yeah, but how did you know?

Got an invite to her wedding in the mail the other day.

Pausing at Mac’s words Avery swallowed hard. Instinctively reaching for her coffee to take another a drink. A part of her wishing it were something stronger.

Before she could reply back to Mac’s text he sent another one.

It’s in Cali so I doubt I can go but I wouldn’t go anyway because the other bride isn’t you.

Avery couldn’t help the sad pathetic laugh she let out. Feeling a bit happy that Mac would skip the wedding just because of that.

Though she was still surprised that Mac and Paisley were so close still. Almost wondering how she had missed that. Missed knowing her baby brother was friends with her ex.

Close enough that Paisley thought it was okay to invite him to a wedding.

How thoughtful of you Mackie. But if you wanted to go you could. Paisley and I missed our chance and she’s allowed to move on. I fucked up with her.

After sending her last reply to Mac, Avery finally opened Paisley’s text almost wishing she had opened it first. Maybe it would hurt less if she had. Especially since the text with Mac had been like a kick to the stomach or maybe a knife to the heart.

Ethan’s right you know, you do look gorgeous in dresses. Then again I knew this information first just so you know. Knew it that first night you showed up at the gay club in Tulsa when you officially came out to your friends. You remember that don’t you, your failed date with Jeremy because you were both gay. Anyway that’s besides the point, you wore a dress that night and you were gorgeous and maybe I still get off sometimes to the fact that I ate you out against the wall of my apartment at the time while all you wore was the damn dress.

Biting her lip at Paisley’s text Avery just stared at it for what felt like forever. Her hand again instinctively reaching for her coffee as she took several more drinks.

Trying to digest what Paisley had said as well as trying to ignore the fact that she was turned on now. Turned on again even though she had just had sex last night.

Hated that she knew if she shut her eyes right now she could go back to that night. Go back to Paisley between her legs and how they had both been so turned on they hadn’t even made it to Paisley’s bedroom.

Once she felt like she had finally come down some, Avery found the strength somehow to reply back.

Are you sure that text is appropriate Pai?

Probably not but I sent it anyway. When did you become the judge of morals? Weren’t you the one who cheated on Cordy with me?

I was but I also didn’t love her. I wasn’t engaged to be married to her in a few months, like you are with Sloan.

So would it make it any better if I told you I didn’t love her? Would it make it morally okay for me to send you texts like that?

Avery swallowed hard as she read over Paisley’s last text. Not sure how to even take what Paisley was asking or even saying.

Was she saying that because it was the truth or just to be sarcastic with Avery because Avery had called her out on bad texting behavior while engaged.

No. It would mean you need to end your engagement before you marry her and make a huge mistake.

Whatever. Just forget I even texted you Hanson.

Closing her eyes Avery let out a soft sigh.

Fine. Goodbye Chambers.

Arriving back at Ethan’s well after noon, Avery did her best to sneak inside hoping she could make it to the guest room where she was staying at least long enough to get a change of clothes and shower. But she should have known with her luck that wasn’t bound to happen.

“Avery Laurel Hanson,” Ethan chided as he came out of the living room. Avery nearly jumping as she turned to look at him. “I think you owe me an explanation on where you’ve been young lady,” he teased which once again Avery was blushing for the second time that day.

“You know where I was,” she retorted with a shake of her head. “What you really want is the juicy details,” she told him watching as he just smirked.

His green eyes lighting up like some kid in a candy store.

“Busted,” Ethan replied as he stepped closer. “So tell me everything? Was Harper good in bed? How many times did you do it?”

Laughing Avery just looked down as she ran a hand down her face. “I’ll give you all the details if you let me shower first?” she asked him as she looked back up.

Praying that he’d say yes because she really did want to shower and change clothes.

“Fine,” Ethan sighed dramatically. “But please make it quick.”

“Yeah, yeah I’ll take an hour,” Avery teased him as she finally walked away to go to the guest room. Hearing Ethan again sigh dramatically.

Avery only smiling at his dramatic sigh because god, it was one of the many reasons she loved him and kept him in her life. It was why she was glad that maybe somehow he had wormed himself into her life after their one night stand.

She just hoped he didn’t judge her too harshly over the fact that she had just left Harper. Not even being nice enough to leave a note or anything.

Avery let out a tiny sigh as she stepped out of the shower. Having taken longer in it that she expected too, mainly because she had to get herself off. She had still been turned on from Paisley’s first text, despite everything that had happened after.

So of course she had used her time in the shower to give herself an orgasm with her hand. The whole time wishing it had been Paisley instead.

That it had been her fingers or even her tongue getting Avery off instead of Avery’s fingers.

Which maybe it was the post orgasm haze that made her walk to where she had laid her cell phone down on the edge of the sink, picking it up and taking a picture of herself naked and probably still looking slightly wrecked.

The post orgasm haze could also be blamed for her opening the text conversation with Paisley and sending the picture as well.

Her fingers typing a message to go along with it.

You see what that first message did to me? I had to get myself off in the shower all while I thought of you. I’m also sure if I was some moral judgement police I wouldn’t have just sent that picture and I wouldn’t be sending this message either.

After pressing send on that Avery quickly turned her phone off. Knowing she really did need to get dressed now because she wasn’t sure how long she could keep Ethan at bay. Knew he wanted all the sordid details of her one night stand.

Though she had decided she’d keep her talks with Paisley a secret from him. She had kept the one from the other day a secret from him.

Anyway she was afraid he’d already judge her for leaving Harper like she had. She knew he’d probably judge her more with the line she had just crossed with Paisley. Regardless of the fact that maybe Paisley had crossed it first.

Regardless of the fact that he also knew she still loved her ex. He’d remind her about Sloan who he was also friends with.

Maybe tell her cheating wasn’t right even if he had wanted her to cheat on Cordelia with him when she had been dating her.

Yet that was different, she hadn’t loved Cordelia and she wasn’t engaged to her.

Paisley was engaged to Sloan and she loved her…maybe. There had to be something there otherwise why had she agreed to marry her?

So it was best if Avery didn’t tell Ethan just like it was best if Avery just stopped replying to Paisley. It would keep either of them from crossing anymore lines.
