About

The initial idea for this story came from a dream I had. The dream was a little different, with Jess being the main Hanson sibling featured in it, not Avery, but the basic plot was there. It seemed to fit into a series of semi-related “Zac dreams” I’ve been having. Since I decided to turn this particular dream into a story, I haven’t had another one.

At first, I was worried it was a little bit too much like my own story Cause and Effect, Lindsay’s Black Balloon Series and the Lucy and Taylor Trilogy. I discussed the idea with Lindsay and a few others who had read those stories, and ultimately we all decided that it was distinct enough to stand on its own. At this point, there are few plots that haven’t been done before, but hopefully In the Dark is unique enough that people will still enjoy it for what it is.

The story’s title comes from Ellie Goulding’s song This Love (Will Be Your Downfall) which I feel fits the story really, really well.
